Sach Ka Samna!

SachKaSaamna

“Would you have physical relationship with some other man, if your husband does not come to know about it at all?”, “Have you peed in the Swimming pool in your childhood days?” – these are not questions from an American television show, but from our own Star plus. This program ‘Sach Ka Samna’ (which has been inspired from the American tv show ’Moment of Truth’) is a reality show in which people need to answer the truth for a set of questions. Their anwers during the show are compared to the polygraphic test results (which are conducted before itself) and if they tell a lie at any point in the game, they lose.

For those who have not heard about a polygraph, let me take the help of Wikipedia – “A polygraph (popularly referred to as a lie detector) is an instrument that measures and records several physiological responses such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, breathing rhythms, body temperature and skin conductivity while the subject is asked and answers a series of questions, on the theory that false answers will produce distinctive measurements”

There are many controversies regarding its use and validities, let us not get into those. Let me give one or two controversies due to this show. Vinod Kambli got into a controversy because of his “YES” to the question “Do you believe that Sachin could have done more to save you from your self-destructive behaviour?”. A lady was asked a question “”Would you have physical relationship with some other man, if your husband does not come to know about it at all?”, for which she gave a ‘NO’. Curse her fate, the polygraph results said otherwise. The cameras were swift enough to zoom on her husband’s face. He was on the verge of crying and the embarrassment was very obvious.

This program has gained a lot of attention (both positive and negative) in the past few weeks. In fact our politicians consider this show to be more important than people’s problems, that they have raised a furor in Rajya Sabha regarding this show.  I was just thinking whether the politicians would cross even the first question :D .  Imagine a question posed to a politician “Have you ever misused your power for personal reasons?”, “Have you ever received a bribe?”, “Have you ever attacked a person physically, just because he opposed you?”, “Have you ever committed a murder?”… I doubt if 99% of the politicians would even pass the first question. What say??

We need not feel sad for the humiliation faced by the contestants, as they participated in this program on their own wish and were ready to face the music! If this program gives some pleasure to you, watch it. Else, just switch off the TV and go to sleep :) .

Well written! It would be interesting to bring in the entire Pakistani establishment and ask them if they are the perpertuators of the Mumbai attacks. All this before the UN :D .

I think on how does such personal questions affect the relatives involved. Now that people know before entering this show that such personal level (most infidelity) based questions is what ll be asked, they would rather disclose them to their spouse before the enter in to save them from the embarrasement in public. That also will help the couple to only focus on getting the polygraph to beep Yes always and get them the money :) Frankness and money, both achieved! and no feeling of embarrasement and guilty also :P .

i like the show myself,ya..its different that i don’t have guts to participate in such shows…:)…hell-lo…everybody loves controversies…don’t they?…may b its cuz we like to peep into other’s lives..
but i still consider India is lil immature in these subjects…
The hungama created by our gr8 politicians have only increased its TRP..Star plus is smiling all the way to the bank…. and ,ofcourse no one is forced to compete in this…the show is simple, spill the beans(truth) for money..and who doesn’t want money??
but…wateva…you gotta feel, you gotta think…is the money worth it???

I hate the idea of something ‘inspired’ from an American/British tele. Why can’t producers think of something relevant to our own way of life?

    HI Chandru,

good to see you back in this space. you have highlighted a point which resonates with me too…the one about politicians not even clearing the first question.

i have penned down my thoughts about reality tv in my blog too…here is the link….
